In regard to natural gas the following applies.

Natural gas is the safest of all the hydrocarbon fuels. It has a specific gravity of 0.6; so it is lighter than air and rises rapidly when released. Propane has a specific gravity of 1.55 so it stays on the ground and spreads out when released.

Natural gas is only flammable within 5% and 15% concentration in air. therefore, if it is below 5% it would not ignite. If it is above 15% it would extinguish an ignition source. it is therefore an asphyxiant.

It is non toxic and so an odourant is generally added to it in the transportation network that makes it detectable, by a person with a normal sense of smell, at 1% concentration in air, well before it becomes flammable.

Natural gas is clean-burning and does not leave behind varnishes, tar or other residues like other fossil fuels such as propane and diesel.

The price of natural gas in Trinidad and Tobago is stable at US$3.15 per mmBtu. Propane is US$9.00 per mmBtu. Natural gas is therefore the cheapest of all fuels inclusive of electricity!

Natural gas is abundant in Trinidad and Tobago. It has been used, since 1975, to provide a safe, and low priced fuel for the Light Industrial and Commercial industrial customers. This is a chief reason why products manufactured locally, using natural gas, are highly competitive in price throughout the Caribbean.
